When Afghanistan hits the international news, it seldom involves lifestyle issues of any kind. Not many people realize though that Afghanistan is home to some of the world’s most highly skilled carpet weavers. That is why leading design magazine Wallpaper chose the AfghanMade Carpets organization to combine forces in a carpet exhibition during London Design Festival. The result was a colourfull, warm display of carpet designs from five leading design companies: Christopher Farr, Fort Street Studio, Nodus, Nanimarquina and ABC Italia. They all invited Afghan based weavers to create some new work for them. So next time you think of Afghanistan, let it be in a more softer way.
